「着物は自分の一部」ーオーストラリアから着物愛好家ニックさんご来店

１０月１４日、オーストラリア出身のニックさんが「着物の着方を教えてください」と着物姿で突然ご来店されました。

これも何かのご縁ということで、小さな頃から着物に親しんできた経験豊富な社長直々に、マンツーマンでご指導させていただきました。YouTubeの動画ではわからなかった細かなところまで学べた、と大変喜んで頂けたようです。

レッスン後に簡単なインタビューをお願いしたところ、快く受けてくださいました。

すでにお着物を１０着お持ちだというお着物愛好家のニックさんは、６週間かけて日本を旅していらっしゃるそうで、日本の伝統文化に深い興味を持たれており、長距離移動もお着物で過ごしていらっしゃるという熱心な方です。

旅先で真っ先に聞くのが、「呉服屋さんはどこですか？」という質問。鶴岡に到着後すぐに、小いけを勧められたそうです。

Q.　どうしてお着物に興味を持ったんですか？

A.　子供の頃、初めて出来た友達が日本人で、日本のことや日本語のことを聞いたりしました。そして、日本の精神を理解するために、日本の歴史や伝統を勉強する様になりました。

Q.　初めてお着物を着たのはいつですか？

A.　大分県別府市で、お茶会に参加した際に初めて着物を着ました。

Q.　どの様な柄がお好きですか？

A.　伝統的な色を使った古典柄が好みです。その時期の季節に合った柔らかい自然の色を使った柄の着物に惹かれます。

Q.　着物に対してどんなイメージを持っていましたか？

A.　自分が着物を着ていると、「それは何？」と聞かれたり、「着物を着ているの！？すごいね」と言われたり、会話も盛り上がり、周りの人も喜びで満たせます。着物は自分も周りも幸せにするものだと思っています。

帯や小物、羽織でおしゃれをする伝統的なスタイルが気に入っています。

Q.　お着物で何をしたいですか？

A.　日本の歴史や文化に関するイベントや催し物に参加したいと思っています。

Q.　どんな場面で着たいですか？

A.　お茶会や、お祭、日本庭園に出かける際に着たいです。

Q.　実際に着物を着てどうですか？

A.　自分が着物の一部で、着物が自分の一部という、着物と一体化した気持ちになります。

On October 14th, Nick from Australia suddenly came to our store wearing a kimono and asked, ''Please teach me how to wear a kimono.''

This is also a kind of connection for us. So we were given one-on-one instruction from our experienced president who has been familiar with kimonos since he was a child.

He was very pleased that he was able to learn even the small details that he could not understand from YouTube videos.

After the class, we asked him for a quick interview, and he gladly accepted.

Nick is a kimono lover who already owns 10 kimonos. He is traveling around Japan for six weeks and deeply interested in traditional Japanese culture and is an enthusiastic person who wears kimonos even on long-distance travel.

The first question he asked when he arrived Tsuruoka was "Where is a kimono shop?". He was recommended to go to Koike.

Q. Why did you become interested in kimonos?

A. When I was a child, my first friend was Japanese, and I asked him about Japan and the Japanese language. Then, in order to understand the Japanese spirit, I began to study Japanese history and traditions.

Q. When did you first wear a kimono?

A. I first wore a kimono when I participated in a tea ceremony in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, which I visited.

Q. What kind of patterns of kimono do you like?
A. I like classic patterns using traditional colors. I am attracted to kimonos with patterns that use soft, natural colors that match the season.

Q. What kind of image did you have of kimonos?
A. When I wear a kimono, people ask me, "What is that?" or say, "You're wearing a kimono? That's amazing!" It gets the conversation flowing and fills the people around me with joy. I think kimonos make both myself and those around me happy.

I like the traditional style of dressing up with obi, accessories, and haori.

Q. What do you want to do with a kimono?
A. I would like to participate in events and activities related to Japanese history and culture.

Q. In what situations would you like to wear a kimono?
A. I would like to wear one when I go to tea ceremonies, festivals, and Japanese gardens.

Q. How does it feel to actually wear a kimono?
A. I feel like I am part of the kimono and the kimono is part of me, like I am one with the kimono.
